I would love a blue tongue, but the friendliest species grows too large I think:(.

Bearded Dragon? They’ll grow too large for that space eventually, but while they are a juvenile they’ll be perfectly happy in that size terrarium.... if you get a baby it should be small enough for all four years (assuming a normal track and that you live in a place where those size limits apply for all four years) and just about the time you graduate it should be needing a larger enclosure. Beardies can be pretty good pets. Their personalities are somewhat variable, but chill ones are super chill, and even wild ones are often handleable.

Get a gecko, they don’t need that much space I don’t think.
And they are adorable.

a dog is a horrible suggestion ....
if OP gone to an unexpected party and didnt go home for like 2 days there’d be a straving dog, and dog poop everywhere
if its a cat at least the cat can survive on its own for a few days

Leopard gecko! I had one for a while as a kid. Not hard to take care of or feed, and they always have a smile.
Although mine lived about 10 years and grew almost a foot long. She was a big’un... Fed mostly large mealworms.

Leopard Gecko is probably the best possible suggestion for a smallish, easy care reptile.

Not sure what the requirements are for them, but how about a snake of some sort? My mate’s got a lovely snake (not sure what sort, corn snake maybe?) and when it’s cold they coil themselves around your arm to get heat into them. In function, bit closer to a cat or a dog than a lizard (or the musk turtles we have, lairy bastards...).

The contract says “no pets that will cause fear in most people” so not cute tarantulas or snakes.

How ridiculous!
Well, given that only 51% of the us population is scared of snakes (down from 56% and decade or so ago) i’d say just wait a while til ‘the majority’ of the population isn’t scared.
Also, given that snakes topped the list of fears, i'd say tarantulas are in with less than 50% of the population ;)
